Breathing Exercise:
Simple breathing exercises are a great way to calm the mind and body, while allowing for greater relaxation, focus, and clarity. Here is a very simple and effective breathing exercise that can be done anywhere and as many times a day as you need!
- Sit comfortably with feet flat on the ground, back as straight as possible, hands resting on thighs, and eyes closed (preferably)
- Breathe in slowly through the nose for 3-5 seconds, feeling the chest and stomach expand
- Hold the breath for 3-5 seconds as you really feel the expansion of your trunk
- Breathe out slowly through the mouth for 3-5 seconds feeling the shoulders relax/drop and the weight of your body onto the chair/floor
- Repeat 3-5 times
Depending on your fitness level and lung capacity, there will be some variance in how long you can perform each step. The goal is to gradually progress to the 5 second intervals. I use this constantly through the day to help me relieve stress, clear my mind and refocus, or to just leave the day behind before I enter my home. Let me know how it helps you!
